Many solicitor firms no longer wish to send instructions, pleadings or documents by post.  Although sending such documents as a PDF by email appears to be a quick solution it has a number of downsides.  

 

Firstly, there are concerns regarding the security of emails and on a practical basis the files are often so large that email systems can’t cope with them.  It is for this reason that Baxters Business Consultants have developed a secure part of their website where instructing solicitors can securely upload documents to Baxters Business Consultants.  The same system can, where required, be used by instructing solicitors to download Baxters Business Consultants expert witness report outputs.  To ensure that data is not compromised in either transfer, the system Baxters Business Consultants has adopted employs the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol.

Using a SSL solution ensures complete data confidentiality.  The encryption methods it uses are based on keys only available to the user and the server, making it practically impossible to decode the data sent, even if it is intercepted.  Additionally, SSL solutions also ensure data integrity.  This means that no outside source can modify data as it travels between an end user and a server.  If data is changed in transit, the protocol automatically recognizes the modification and asks the client to resubmit the file.

 

The principal benefit of this system is that our instructing solicitors can now send large files, multiple files or entire folders in a matter of seconds - no items lost in the post, no documents held up in postal strikes, no expensive or inefficient couriers, no FTP and no email bounce-backs.

 

Process

 

Once requested, you will receive a username and password directly from Baxters Business Consultants.

 

Simply click on the link to our secure page.  You will be asked to enter your username and password into a dialogue box at the server www.serifwebresources.com (the software used to develop this site).

 

You will then be taken to our secure page where you can upload your file.  This document site drop part of our site is hosted by www.yousendit.com.   

 

Usernames and passwords are case specific.

 

Users should, where possible, manually zip their file(s) or folder(s) prior to uploading.

To create a zip file on a Windows computer:

Locate the file(s) or folder(s) you want to compress.

Right-click the file or folder, point to Send To, and then click Compressed (zipped) folder.
A new compressed folder is created in the same folder. To rename it, right-click the folder, click Rename, and then type the new name.
